Superbowl

Well if you are Patriot fan then you've to be disappointed with the outcome of
Superbowl XLII.
The most disappointing aspect of the game is not the loss but the way the Patriots played. True that the Giants played well but the Patriots should have put together a much better game plan and played lot better. You would have never heard me say this - Tom Brady looked average, Bill Billicheck looked like a coach who didn't know what he was doing and that Patriot defense looked old and tired.
First of all the Patriots couldn't stop the Giant running game right from the first drive. In addition, they let Eli Manning convert four third downs in that drive, that to me was unacceptable. Why couldn’t they have put 8 men in the box, stopped the run and made Eli Manning pass more in that drive.
More than all of that, the Patriots were leading 7-3 most of the game. I absolutely don't understand why they didn't run the ball more. I understand if they were down by two touchdowns, and that they have to pass every time they get the ball. Moreover, the Giants were relentless in their pass rush. Good things happen when you run the ball – control the game, make the defense tired, and of course open up the passing game. It's extremely disappointing that the Patriot play calling was so stupid. Were they scared or arrogant....I don't know. It’s a joke that Brady threw the ball 48 times in a 17-14 loss, with the Patriots up 7-3, and 14-10 until the last few minutes.
Another stupid decision was to go for it on fourth down instead of kicking a field goal. When the Giants are playing such good defense and have taken Randy Moss out of the game, why would you go for 4-13 at Giants 31 yard line. It’s not like the Patriot kicker Stephen Gostkowski was injured or something. What was Billicheck thinking….?Also, in the drive in the fourth quarter that gave the Giants the lead I absolutely don't understand how the Patriots didn't sack Eli Manning. It's not like he's a big guy who's difficult to sack. They let him get away and complete a crucial third down. That one play exemplified who wanted the Superbowl more.
I was expecting more pass rushes, blind side blitzes from the Patriot safety - Rodney Harrison, only to be disappointed by a Patriot defense that wasn't aggressive enough. They should have hit and knocked down Eli Manning more and should have spoiled his rhythm.

Anyway, there’s always next year.

Road to the Superbowl

If you are a football fan, you've to absolutely love the games this weekend.

"Playoffs.....playoffs....are you kidding me.....don't talk about playoffs...playoffs" - hold on hold on....this is the playoffs, so let's talk about it.

1) Seattle vs Green Bay - Packers

I know that the Seahawks beat Redskins at home at last weekend. However, the Packers are a much better team offensively than the Redskins. The Packers will run the ball better than the Redskins. Also, I expect the Packer defense to give Matt Hasselbeck and the Seahawk offense fits.
Plus, I like the Brett Favre factor, so don't forget to watch a 37 year old quarterback get it done on Saturday.

2) Jacksonville vs New England - Patriots

I've a lot of respect for Jack Del Rio, the head coach of the Jaguars, his coaching style and the Jaguars. The Jaguars play ball controlled football and don't turn the ball over. Also, their defense is spectacular. However, we all saw how they almost lost last week's game by turning the ball over in interceptions. So the bottom line is they do make mistakes and when they do, they are vulnerable.
Do I have to say something about the Patriots? OK, if you insist here's one statistic - they went 16-0 this season. I like the Patriots because they are the best team in the NFL. Their defense will go after David Gerrard all day and force him to make mistakes. Also, I don't think the Jaguars have anyone who can cover Randy Moss one on one. Well, if they double team Moss, the Patriots have numerous other weapons to throw the ball to. New England will get this one.

3) San Diego vs Indianapolis - Colts

The Chargers have been playing well lately. However, I've not totally bought into their quarterback Phillip Rivers. The Chargers win games when they give the ball to LT and throw only when they have to and not when they want to. I expect the Indy defense to put 8 men in the box and stop LT. This will force Rivers to throw the ball more and thus he'll make mistakes. Peyton Manning on the field = too many touchdowns = Indy victory.

4) New York Giants vs Dallas - Giants

Can there be a playoff weekend without any upset? I guess not, so here's one.
Call me crazy, I still haven't bought into Cowboy quarterback Tony Romo. When he looks bad, he looks awful. The Giants will rush 4 and have a linebacker spy the running lanes of Tony Romo. This will make sure Romo stays in the pocket. He is at his worst when he can't beat the pass rush by running out of the pocket. Moreover, with T.O questionable for the game the Giants should put together a solid game plan. Eli Manning will look like a hero on Sunday - isn't that time yet for the former No.1 draft pick?

Week 14 Predictions

Apparently, I have no sixth sense, so rather worry about something I don't have, let me work with what I have :-).

1) Chicago vs Washington - Redskins
The Redskins have had a tough time over the last few days. I still think they are an OK team that plays good defense. I hope they focus on football and get this one at home. Plus, the Bears are not a great road team. They are just 3-3 on the road this year.

2) Miami vs Buffalo - Bills
The Bills are playing well, considering what they have on all sides of the football, their head coach Dick Jauron deserves a lot of credit. They play good defense and don't turn the ball over on offense. Above all, they just hang in there in all games. The Dolphins haven't won a game yet, and the way things are going it looks like an 0-16 season for the fish.

3) St.Louis vs Cincinnati - Bengals
I think the Bengals will win this one. The Bengals will score points and make plays on defense to stop the Rams.

4) Dallas vs Detroit - Cowboys
Detroit is just playing horrible football right now. This should be an easy one for Dallas.

5) Oakland vs Green Bay - Packers
It looks like Brett Favre might not start Sunday. Even, if he does he might not be 100%. But who cares, the Packers play good defense and run the ball well on offense. I guess that's enough to beat Oakland.

6) San Diego vs Tennessee - Chargers
The Chargers will win this one. They have won their last two games, more importantly LT has run the ball well in those two games. On the other side, Titans have struggled lately, even in their win against the Texans last week they looked mediocre. Vince Young has not been consistent. Plus, with a win the Chargers can get a comfortable lead in the AFC West and that should be motivating.

7) New York Giants vs Philadelphia - Eagles (Upset of the week)
I'm not too impressed with the Giants. Eli Manning has looked mediocre at best in the last two games. He has thrown 6 interceptions in the last two games, and that's not good - particularly this time of the year. I like the Eagle defense, though they gave too many points last week, which, I think, was mainly because of the poor Eagle offense and their miscues. Plus, Mcnabb is returning this week. So, I expect the Eagles to come out and play well. The other key is that with a 5-7 record the playoff hopes are almost gone for the Eagles, so there's not that much pressure on them. What do you do when you play without pressure - you enjoy the game and spoil the other teams playoff hopes.

8) Carolina vs Jacksonville - Jaguars
If you watched the Jaguars game last week, you have to be impressed with them even though they lost the game. They did make a few mistakes, but overall they played good football. I expect them to play well against the Panthers.

9) Tampa Bay vs Houston - Bucs
I like the Bucs on the road. They are ranked No.2 on defense. They'll put the brakes on Houston.

10) Minnesota vs San Francisco - Vikings
How about the Vikings putting up 37 points in the first half against the Lions last week. They passed for 231 yards and ran for 177 yards, that's good balance.

11) Arizona vs Seattle - Seahawks

I like the Seahawks at home. They are ranked 11th overall on Offense and 12th overall on defense.

12) Kansas City vs Denver - Broncos
This is a match up between two teams that are struggling. I guess, the Broncos will come out as better one of the two.

13) Pittsburgh vs New England - Patriots
This should be a good game. However, I don't think this will be a close one as many people expect it to be. I think the Patriots will win comfortably.

14) Cleveland vs New York Jets - Browns
Jets should look forward to next year. The Browns will beat the Jets.

15) Indianapolis vs Baltimore - Colts
The Ravens played a tough one against the Patriots last week. However, they are whining too much about their loss. It's time to quit all that and play football. Anytime, a team complains that they lost because of the referees, means that the players don't have confidence in themselves. You have to play in a way that the referee calls do not affect the end result.

16) New Orleans vs Atlanta - Saints
The Saints are a much better football team than the Falcons. Even with a 5-7 record their playoff chances are not totally gone because of that weak division.
